Coming to Kota Kinabalu for a short trip?

Here are some local foods you must eat.. if you missed any of these.

Your trip is lousy!

sheng rou mian

1. Sang Nyuk Mian

The single most demanded and requested dish in KK.

Every friend who return during holiday seasons, or tourists who come KK for short trip – there’s always a trip to this pork lard goodness.

tuaran noodle

2. Tuaran Noodle

You must try the local noodle.

You can’t find this in any places else. It’s only available here in Sabah.

Noodle is made with lots of eggs, and stir fried with more eggs, char siu and mixed vegetables.

guo tie

3. Guo Tie (Dumpling)

Your KK trip is incomplete without eating all-time favourite dumpling. Everyone should have at least 10 dumplings on table, either pan-fried or boiled.

Dumplings dip in vinegar and raw garlic. Yummy.

Probably the most visited and tourist packed restaurant in KK.

Bak kut teh was made famous at Klang but KK’s version has brought a new twist to it.

yoyo milk tea

7. Yoyo

“Yoyo” has become synonym to “Pearl milk tea” as like Colgate to toothpaste, disregarding the brand.

You can try one to see what’s the craze about. But I personally prefer ZenQ’s pearl milk tea.

how lee tenom noodle

9. Tenom Kon Lau Mian

Another Sabah-only noodle. This one originates from Keningau and made famous by Kedai Kopi How Lee.

Simple kon lau mian with toppings of your choice – char siew, pork slices or siew nyuk. Pork lard is good.

10. Grilled Stingray (Ikan Bakar)

Every one has to try KK’s own grilled stingray. The fish is grilled on hot metal plate and add sambal as toppings, served with squeezed lime. Syok!

You can find this dish at Kedai Kopi New Mui Vui but my personal favourite is at Kedai Kopi Lotus.
